the banquet the movie: zhang zi yi( 2006) movie review

well this review regarding the banquet might be 5 years late, but well i have decided to make reviews based on films that i have actually watched, since  i was not able to watch this 5 years ago, let me have my verdict on it.
well the costume, the place, the environment and the props was superiors. the lighting was good, visually speaking it was a work of art. As for the story, well i was enchanted for the first 45 minutes, then eventually got bored, The movie was too long, that is why the concept got repeated over and over again. But i must congratulate the director, the producer and zhang zi yi, it was still an art packed film, filled with colors and movements, and the characters seemed to be dancing while fighting. it was dream like i mean compared to other films, it was definitely better than sucker punch a thousand times and contains witty statements along the way. The story however, is not unique if we will review other chinese films. The craziness of the empress, the emperor and the prince is apparent, we get it power freaks go nowhere, but the chinese just seem to have a way of making the story chaotic a midst the calmness and serenity of the film. Well it was still really fictional you know, but the kind that you can forgive. The story would have been good if it had ended with some power and vengeance.oh but i guess to each his own. i give it a B-.

love and other drugs: anne hathaway, jake gyllenhaal, movie review:

What can i say????---wow this movie is refreshing, the preview wasn't all that great, but the movie turned out to be golden. Congratulations anne hathway ( she kind of reminded me of Julia roberts, only more seductive and open)jake gyllenhaal , well i never thought that there would come a day when i would actually like this guy, he finally found a role where i could admire him. He was good with this role, fantastic as a salesman and a swooning macho man( ok that might not be the perfect word for him) but i love the combination. There was chemistry in the film, plus the story was genuine and even if it is not the most original movie concept---it worked. My boyfriend and I really enjoyed it, it was a chick flick, but a chick flick with flair, sensuous, captivating, fun and dramatic sometimes. it is perfect, i will recommend it for moviegoers out there who want something mind boggling for a moment.  The story makes sense, has some key insights, it was successful in provoking emotions in me, it made me sensitive, open and vulnerable, i almost cried. it was really that good. wow, kudos, it is very rare that i get impressed with a chick flick....
this is definitely way better than the crappy vampire concept out there. If you  want an inspiring love story movie..watch this one!o yah and by the way it was also very funny, there were essential key ingredients that would make viewer's laugh, the brother of jake in the story was hilarious.!
and for men, yeah, anne hathaway does bare it all for a few seconds! but for a good reason, i did not see it as cheap at all, i think she really has blossomed into a high profile actor! way to go anne!

yellow brick road movie review

Was it scary? that is the question...well the answer, it was for the first 20 minutes then after that the movie just get weirder and weirder...and the final chapter was another disappointment. you see this is why im nt fond of horror movies. I rarely watch them, they dont teach you anything, they just teach you to watch out for the fearful concept and when there is none the movie goes nowhere.  Some of the cast were great actors, however many of them are complete nobodies, i think they have tried to imitate the low budget film paranormal activity but then they just failed.
There are a few good points, like the first concept that they had, was what if there was a god, a certain god waiting for them at the end of the road, only to realize that this particular god does not want them there. The second scary concept was the eerie old music playing, and the chaotic minds of the people in the story. But after that nothing else is new, good or clear. The music was just irritating, if you watched this in a movie house, you would probably be annoyed. The end part was truly annoying, it was not able to explain the existence of the house element and the movie house was completely irrelevant. However, if you will point this out philosophically, then we can gain a few insights... like for example the yellow brick road seems to signify life, that sometimes people follow a path because they are sure that there is an end to it., that after reaching the road they will see something that they like, or they will be given peace, but what if the road understands what needs to happen and the road does not want to take us there....life.if you take it this way then the movie makes sense, but i dont think the writers intended it this way, the ending was just sucky and took the glory out of the film, I give it. a C+

burke and hare (2010) movie review

Im sure they meant well when they created this movie, but this simply was a failure. I expected so much more- first I was expecting something gory, mutilation of the bodies or a more interesting way to picture the bodies being  mutilated---while at the same time finding a way to make it witty.
But no. I dont know if it was the accent, the slow pace, because truthfully the cast was great, they acted out well especially Isla fischer...but it simply was a failure. I dont know, it did not possess, zest. zap! sparkles...disappointing. It was very flat. flat, flat out flat.. The macbeth part, was not funny..or it was really just not funny at all, because they were trying to be funny right. but they failed. Ok
what is the good part of the film. well the anticipation, i thought this was like a sleep hollow material, however, the story was just confusing, too simple and messed up.
Failed.
i give a C- for the grade and no i would not recommend that you watch it.

Your highness the movie ( refreshing, worth watching)

Well its certainly is not a classic movie or an oscar worthy movie- but it is saturday movie worthy: It contains refreshing scenes and characters, and this movie will leave you clueless but laughing
The character courtney( the servant) was a hilarious addition, reminds me of the sidekick in Nacho LIbre.

Plus James Franco really knew how to be insanely funny, Sure Danny Mcbride is not famous in the Philippines, but who cares, the plot was sort of unique( well not so unique) but at least you would have one heck of  a time laughing with friends.
Plus you will learn a new fantastic word in this film. the Villain here is downright interesting, Zoe was plain stupid and fantastic. natalie portman delivered a good show as usual...each and every one of the characters was essential to the movie.
The movie story is weird-but that is what makes it really fun to watch- it does not try so hard to be anything, i will describe it in this 3 words, witty, dumb and fun.

it is certainly better than matt damon's green zone or red riding hood by amanda. It is like A shrek movie, only more hilarious and not so child friendly

Pay seng's verdict: I give it a B+

Red riding hood: another twilight typical movie ( dissapointment)

 Red Riding Hood (2011)
It was honestly a disappointment, the graphics are bad, terrible. It is easy to see that the village, the snow and the mountains were fake.
Well amanda seyfried is a good actress, she performed well in this film-however her fellow actors were plain mediocre. but the character red riding hood in this story, seemed to act like a village whore- the love between her and the lead male ( was too obvious) the characters were not presented well.
The story was too easy to guess, the wolf was so fake, it wasn't even scary and worst of all there were no highlights in the story- which makes me really truly doubt the producing capability of Leonardo Di Caprio. I mean di caprio is a brilliant actor, but this film shames his name.
The village life seems fake, the clothes, the set, the production, the entire set was a complete failure. The film kind of reminds you of the Village, only the village was 10x more beautiful. The life that was created in the village seemed like a poorly written stage play. For people who are so tired of watching vampire type of series, then this would disappoint as well. Even the ending was predictable. It was truly shameful, I thought we would have a good time watching this considering that the concept red riding hood should have been fantastic.
The grade i give this is a D-.

why do we want to be beautiful: the reasons behind?

Why do we want to be considered beautiful, what is beautiful? is it really the road to happiness?

I was asking myself that, why go through the trouble of looking like someone else? do not get me wrong i am not advocating that women should let go of themselves, but i am just seriously baffled on why we do this things?
Why do we want to look younger> when we are supposed to age anyway?
Why do we want to become so thin, when our bone structure will not allow it, its not like everyone of us can look like Italian models? why do we try so hard, what is the genetic code embedded in women that convinces them to try so hard?
Theory #1 We want to get noticed--- not just by men but fellow women- we want the world to see us? When we walk across the street we want people to see how gorgeous are clothes are, how wonderful our hair is, how brilliant looking are the shoes we are wearing, our lipstick. but why do we want to get noticed? for what point and purpose? Well once they notice us, we get compliments, ---then what? I mean its certainly is an ego boost for the whole day or even the week, but the things we sacrifice, our peace of mind is much too sacred to be contented with this reason.Frankly its good to be stared at once in a while, but it will get so annoying at the end of the day.

theory #2  we are searching for a partner

- We want that beautiful figure to get the attention of our crush, men we like. we go through all this hassle of dressing up to get noticed, women even alter their breasts. but if this is the sole reason why we want to be sexy, then it does not satisfy at all, In the end we do not get the  fairytale story that we have been hoping for even if we look like Eva Longoria, it never really gives the permanent joy that women have been hoping for. Sure, you can get the attention of the male for a few years with your stunning dress---but it never really gives you the inner satisfaction of being in love. For if it is the real reason why do we see super gorgeous women get divorced and get cheated on ( sandra bullock and scarlett johansen) why do we see countless of men change their wives? and women as well, why jennifer aniston never seem to have a trustworthy man in  her life and why angelina jolie is reported to be feuding with her husband brad pitt--all of the time? So we go through all this stages of depression because we dont look like a celebrity, ,only to realize that it never is the key to finding love...the one thing we really want. It never really is. the physical beauty does not and will not guarantee love. In the end  when i come to think about it , i would surely hate if my boyfriend just likes me for my eyes or my breasts or my waists. the one fact that would really suck the most is to realize that everything will change once my appearance changes. I cannot remain looking young no matter what I do. So why do we want to be beautiful. is there no quest for peace of mind? why don't we search for ways on how to become happy? really happy.  Without the need for affirmation from other people around us- why do we measure beauty according to what others say?if life is meant to be that way- then i would be glad to find a pill that removes me from all of this..
